Jose Mourinho has replied to Antonio Cassano. The latter has already been critical of AS Roma’s coach several times this season, stating, among other things, that the Portuguese ‘has never been a top trainer’. On Saturday evening, after the 0-1 win against Torino, Mourinho responded to Cassano’s unflattering words. “At Real Madrid he was known for his jacket.”

Cassano, who was the shirt of i Giallorossi was particularly critical of Mourinho at the beginning of February after the cup debacle against low flyer Cremonese (1-2). “That performance made me want to puke. He doesn’t know how to put a team together. Even with your B team you have to beat Cremonese,” Cassano told the podcast Bobo TV from former striker Christian Vieri. “Mourinho has never been a top coach, he just knew how to deal with the media and was great with communication. He is good with big players, but not with the players who are not so good.” Cassano further stated, among other things, that Mourinho “behaves too often sneaky”.

After the game at Torino, Mourinho could not resist responding to Cassano’s words at the press conference. “Everyone is free to express their preferences and criticize,” Mourinho said. “But when it comes to others, like Antonio, it’s different. He’s busy having fun while others are working. If they criticize Roma or Mourinho, I don’t care because they’re just having fun. Cassano has for Roma, Inter and Real Madrid. At Real Madrid he was known for his jacket, at Roma he won the Supercoppa without playing and at Inter he didn’t even win an amateur cup.”

“You know what I won with Inter, Real Madrid and Roma,” the coach continues. “He has a problem with me, but I won’t have a problem with him.” Mourinho won the national title with Real, the treble with Inter and the Conference League with Roma last season at the expense of Feyenoord. Mourinho and Roma did excellent business in Serie A on Saturday. Thanks to the victory and the loss of points by both Inter and AC Milan, the Romans moved up to third place. Roma will take on Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Thursday. De Kuip is then the battleground for the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Europa League. The return in Rome follows on April 20.
