Arsenal want to pry Tommy Setford away from Ajax. Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that the gunners have made an initial offer in Amsterdam for the eighteen-year-old goalkeeper from England, who still has a year's contract with Ajax.

Romano adds that negotiations between all parties involved are in full swing. Sources around Ajax report that Ajax sees a goalkeeper for the future in Setford. However, the young goalkeeper is keen to continue his young career at Arsenal.

Tommy Setford, like his brother Charlie, also active for Ajax, was born in the Netherlands. However, the brothers have an English father and in that context the goalkeepers play youth internationals for England.

It is unknown how much money Arsenal will initially pay for Tommy Setford. It is also unclear whether Ajax is prepared to cooperate in an early departure of the Englishman, who is entering the last year of his contract in Amsterdam.

Tommy Setford is expected to join Jong Ajax next season. The Arsenal-coveted goalkeeper has not yet played any matches for the reserve team. Brother Charlie has played 36 matches for Jong Ajax so far.

Tommy Setford played 21 international matches for various England youth teams over the years. Last year he gained experience during the Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia. England went through the group stage without any difficulty, but were surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 by Uzbekistan (1-2 defeat).
