Arsenal made no mistake in the Premier League on Wednesday night. In their own Emirates Stadium, the leader was 4-0 too strong for Everton. Gabriel Martinelli scored twice, while Bukayo Saka and Martin Ödegaard scored once. Arsenal are now top of the Premier League with sixty points; five points more than number two Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta decided not to change his starting eleven from last Saturday when his team won 0-1 against Leicester City. It was the twelfth time this Premier League season that Arteta did not make any changes to his starting line-up, equaling Arsenal’s record (also 12 times in the 1996/97 season). There was one change in the starting line-up at Everton: defender Conor Coady started on the bench against Arsenal, putting Michael Keane in the starting line-up for the first time this Premier League season.

Everton posed the most threat in the early stages of the game. Neal Maupay in particular came close to scoring twice early in the game, but both times Aaron Ramsdale made the save. Yet it was Arsenal that took the lead after forty minutes. Oleksandr Zinchenko found Saka, who turned away from opponent Vitaliy Mykolenko and shot the ball hard into the goal: 1-0. Just before half time it was even 2-0. Saka captured the ball from Idrissa Gueye and enabled Martinelli to double the score.

In the second half, Leandro Trossard was close to scoring the third goal for the Londoners, but luck was not on his side with his volley. After Dwight McNeil also failed to score on behalf of Everton, it was 3-0 for Arsenal in the 71st minute: Trossard passed the ball low, Ödegaard tapped in. Martinelli also tapped in the 4-0 on a pass from Eddie Nketiah. That was also the final score.
