Quincy Promes was arrested in Dubai due to some serious mistakes, lawyers from the United Arab Emirates conclude. The Telegraph has made an extensive reconstruction of the trip with his team Spartak Moscow that ultimately appears to have been fatal for Promes.

The 32-year-old attacker was sentenced in February in the Netherlands for 7.5 years for involvement in cocaine trafficking and stabbing a cousin at a party. Promes felt safe in Dubai during a training camp with Spartak. During the end of the training camp, Promes made a mistake in the busy traffic of Dubai. He was involved in a traffic accident, after which he fled.

A capital mistake, says Arash Zad, lawyer in Dubai. “One that aggravates punishment in Dubai. This is really a matter of taking care of the damage and you're done.” The lawyer has no idea why Promes decided to flee. “Escape is virtually impossible. There are cameras everywhere in Dubai.”

Promes is eventually arrested when he wants to fly back to Moscow with the Spartak selection. The Dutchman will soon be released, but is not allowed to leave the country.

He then makes the mistake again by showing up in expensive nightclubs, which is also recorded by his girlfriend Tabatha Robinson, better known as rap star Dreamdoll. “A video of the two sweethearts spreads very quickly and does not go unnoticed by the authorities,” he wrote. The Telegraph.

Again, not a useful action, says another lawyer from Dubai, since according to various reports, Promes is under house arrest at the time. The house arrest is a friendly gesture from the government. “You just have to appreciate that gesture,” says the lawyer, who cannot talk openly about the case. “If a video like that shows that you don't do that, it's over immediately. That arrogant behavior is punished here.”

The Dutch justice system then takes its course. 'After pulling an all-nighter' he was immediately arrested again – on the basis of a Red Notice from Interpol. The fifty-time the Dutch international is being held at police headquarters, near the airport.

Promes can still object to possible extradition. Then a process of 'weeks or months' will follow, crime reporter John van den Heuvel recently said in a video item. “It just depends on Promes's position. If he does not resist extradition, things can happen quickly,” said Van den Heuvel.
