Trainer Arne Slot has given an update on Mats Wieffer's injury. The Feyenoord midfielder was injured shortly before the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup and cannot play against NEC Nijmegen.

Wieffer suffered an injury in the run-up to the final battle in De Kuip. Slot chooses Ramiz Zerrouki as Wieffer's replacement. Reporter Hans Kraay junior reported on camera that spectators saw Wieffer walking with crutches in De Kuip.

“At the beginning of the week he felt something in his thigh. That didn't seem to be too bad for a long time, so he took part yesterday and the expectation was that he would make it to the final.”

“But when he passed a ball without tensing his leg, it hit his thigh a little more. Then you cannot participate in the final. And he walks on crutches to rest his leg, not because otherwise he wouldn't be able to walk.”

“I don't know what it is exactly: a tear or just a sprain,” concludes the Feyenoord coach.

Complete Feyenoord line-up

Timon Wellenreuther starts under the bar at Feyenoord. As announced in advance by Slot, the German is preferred to the recently recovered Justin Bijlow. The defense is formed by Bart Nieuwkoop, Thomas Beelen, Dávid Hancko and Lutsharel Geertruida.

In midfield, Zerrouki sees Quinten Timber next to him, while Calvin Stengs has to provide the necessary creativity in the 10 position. In the front, striker Santiago Gimenez is flanked by Yankuba Minteh and Igor Paixão.
