Mats Seuntjens dreamed of a transfer to Feyenoord last summer. The Fortuna Sittard striker was approached in the final phase of the transfer period, but saw a transfer fail. A disappointment for Seuntjens, who has now processed it and focuses entirely on Fortuna, he says in conversation with ESPN.

Seuntjens has started the current season strongly with three goals and an assist and last year was good for six goals and just as many assists. The attack leader of the Fortunezen has no complaints about interest. The striker agrees that Feyenoord was already interested in him last summer. “They reported to Fortuna, but I’m still here. I can’t say much meaningful about it at the moment.” A transfer to Feyenoord would have been a dream for Seuntjens, but he has now turned the switch again. “It’s already September, so it’s just going to be a blast with Fortuna Sittard this season.”

If Seuntjens had made the switch to Feyenoord, this would have meant a reunion with Arne Slot. The two have previously worked together successfully at AZ and the Fortuna star still maintains a warm relationship with his ex-trainer. “He knows me well and I know him very well. We know what we have in common. If you do the addition, it might sound logical indeed. It just didn’t happen, I wish him and Feyenoord a lot of success next season.”

Sjors Ultee is only too happy that he can still have the striker this season. “Mats is a great footballer, we are very happy that he is playing with us. He has a combination of technique and power. He is so fast, even with the ball at his foot, a real winner for us.” According to Fortuna’s trainer, it does not necessarily have to be a disadvantage if Seuntjens ends up on an island on Tuesday evening in the competition match with Ajax. “If we can get Mats in one-on-one, that’s great too. If you are a defender and he comes dribbling towards you, you may feel very lonely as a defender.”
