Arne Slot is thinking of a reunion with Jamiro Monteiro. The midfielder is currently under contract with the Philadelphia Union in the United States, but his agent Carlos Barros confirms that negotiations are underway with both Feyenoord and Anderlecht. In addition, “a major Brazilian club” and a “major club from the Western Conference of the MLS” are interested.

Monteiro, 27, played for the first team of SC Cambuur between 2015 and 2017. Slot was then working as an assistant trainer. After a season with Heracles Almelo, Monteiro switched to FC Metz, which leased him to Philadelphia Union in mid-2019. For an amount of 1.8 million euros, he switched definitively in January 2020. In total, he played 74 official games for the MLS club, scoring 12 goals and 18 assists.

On Sunday, Monteiro was already missing from the match selection for the game against Chicago Fire. Trainer Jim Curtin confirmed that there are talks about a departure of his pupil. He didn’t want to lose any more. “I hope you can respect it. I can’t say more than that,” Curtin said. Last Monday he still had a base place in the match against Inter Miami (1-1). Monteiro is an important player in the squad and is invariably in the starting lineup when he is fit.

According to journalist Jonathan Tannenwald of The Inquirer Monteiro’s family will not be allowed access to the United States for the time being and the Cape Verdean’s wish to leave may have something to do with this. “It is very frustrating that his family cannot be with him,” said agent Barros. “But lawyers are working on that.”
