Leroy Fer will captain Feyenoord on Thursday in the match against FC Drita in the second qualifying round of the Conference League. The 31-year-old midfielder, also tested in the center of the defense during the preparation, takes over the captain’s armband from Steven Berghuis, who left for Ajax. He will wear the band ‘at least until the selection is complete and the new hierarchy is determined’, reports RTV Rijnmond.

Fer already wore the captain’s armband at Feyenoord under Dick Advocaat last season. He was second captain and wore the band, for example, after Berghuis was sent off with a red card in the lost cup match against sc Heerenveen (4-3). In his first contract with Feyenoord, he already regularly wore the captain’s armband, especially in the 2010/11 season. Jens Toornstra, third captain last season, is now second captain.

“I will maintain the hierarchy as it was for the time being,” Slot said at the press conference from Kosovo on Wednesday evening. It is not yet certain that Fer is still the captain at the start of the Eredivisie season, he indicated. “Only shortly before our first Eredivisie match, when the selection is hopefully complete, I will choose my first captain.”

Feyenoord will train on Wednesday evening in the Fadil Vokrri Stadium, where it will compete against the number two of the past season in Kosovo on Thursday at 9 p.m. according to RTV Rijnmond the only question on the line-up is whether Róbert Bozeník or Naoufal Bannis will be preferred in the striker position. Slot did not want to say anything about this during the press conference. Next Thursday, the return awaits in De Kuip.

Luis Sinisterra is fit enough to play. The attacker had to accompany the field on Saturday in the friendly match against Werder Bremen (2-1), but his injury is not that bad. “On Monday he started training again, so that looks good,” said Slot, who took the young talents Antoni Milambo and Lennard Hartjes to Kosovo. “That means they can possibly also make minutes tomorrow night. If it comes to that, it’s because I think they can make a difference in the game. I don’t give them minutes just because they are young.”
