Barcelona will officially announce on Thursday that Ansu Fati has extended his contract, Fabrizio Romano reports. According to the transfer market expert, the eighteen-year-old attacker will ‘technically’ put his signature on a new contract with the Catalans on Wednesday. Like Pedri, Fati will have a buyout clause of one billion euros in his contract.

Mundo Deportivo already reported on Tuesday an agreement in principle between Barcelona and Fati’s agent Jorge Mendes about a new contract, which will bind him to the Catalans until mid-2027. With this Barcelona strikes an important blow, because Fati was in possession of an expiring contract and was coveted by the necessary European superpowers.

Trainer Ronald Koeman said on Tuesday at the press conference in the run-up to the Champions League match with Dynamo Kiev that Fati’s contract extension was ‘close’ and he called that ‘important news’. Romano reports that Fati’s salary includes bonuses for winning prizes. Barcelona will officially announce Fati’s contract extension on Thursday.

Although Fati according to Mundo Deportivo had to choose the clubs, the four-time Spanish international consciously opts for a longer stay at Barcelona. Fati has only just returned from a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for almost a year. The wing striker made an impression last Sunday by scoring a nice goal against Valencia (3-1 win). Barcelona also reached an agreement last week with Pedri, one of the club’s other rising stars, on a new contract until mid-2026.

Fati was admitted to the youth academy by Barcelona at the age of ten. The attacker broke through in the first team in 2019 at the age of sixteen and made an impression from the first moment. Fati became both the youngest ever goalscorer and starting debutant for Barcelona in the competition. He also holds the record for youngest goalscorer in the Champions League. Fati is now on 47 official appearances for Barcelona, in which he recorded 15 goals and 5 assists.
