Sergi Barjuán has included two surprising names in his first match selection as interim coach of Barcelona. Álvaro Sanz and Abde Ezzalzouli, both playing for Barcelona B, are part of the selection that will face Deportivo Alavés on Saturday evening from 9 p.m. It is Barcelona’s first game without Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last week after the 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.

Sanz and Abde already made their appearance on the Barcelona training field on Friday and are no strangers to Sergi, who was for the selection of Barcelona B until Koeman’s resignation and in principle returns there when the club has designated a definitive trainer for the first time. Sanz is a 20-year-old midfielder who has been part of the Catalans’ youth academy since 2015, while the one-year younger Abde is a left winger annex Moroccan youth international who came over from Hércules last summer for two million euros.

Sergi Roberto dropped out of the first game after Koeman’s dismissal with a thigh injury. The midfielder annex right back still had a basic place in the game with Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday evening, but is now sidelined indefinitely. Due to injuries, Sergi cannot have access to Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Ronald Araujo, Martin Braithwaite, Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembélé. Fati was also missing against Rayo Vallecano and is being prepared for a reunion with Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League.
