Xavi Simons is still close to a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Fabrizio Romano reports. The French superpower has let the eighteen-year-old midfielder know that he can look forward to an improved proposal. “This brings Simons closer to a new long-term commitment,” said Romano.

For a long time there was uncertainty about the future of Simons, who will run out of his current contract with PSG on July 1. Due to the limited opportunities to play in the first team, the Dutchman would have doubts about his stay in Paris, as reflected in French media. That changed from mid-December, when Mauricio Pochettino almost permanently took the offensive midfielder into the A-selection. Since then, Simons has made his appearance in seven games.

Simons was snatched by PSG in 2019 at the age of 16 from the youth division of Barcelona, where he had spent nine years. According to French media, this resulted in a salary of one million euros gross per year, an unprecedented amount for a sixteen-year-old. He made his debut for PSG on August 6, 2020 and now has a total of nine appearances.
