If it is up to Alex Kroes, Simon Tahamata will return to Ajax. This is what the brand new technical director of the Amsterdammer says in an extensive interview with The Telegraph. The 67-year-old technical trainer left Ajax in an unpleasant way at the end of February. Tahamata then moved to Berlin to set up his own football school.

Kroes would like to see Tahamata return as a technique trainer at Sports Complex De Toekomst. “I would really like to have him back, but I don't know the ins and outs of his departure. Simon is a fantastic trainer for the youngest and slightly older youth and a super good person.”

According to Kroes, the door at Ajax is open for Tahamata. “Let's see if we can give Simon a very nice place at De Toekomst again at some point.” Tahamata worked in the past in two different periods (2004-2009 and 2014-2024) as a technique trainer in Ajax's youth academy.

Kroes will now first look for staff members for the main force. “We are looking for a former top professional who knows in detail what each match requires and when. That's some experience. We also have a number of excellent specialist trainers, including Jan Wouters, John Bosman and Ronald de Boer. We will also involve them in the first instance to transfer their specific knowledge.”

Interview Tahamata

A month ago Tahamata himself spoke to The Telegraph. The former winger indicated that he was disappointed with his departure from Ajax. “The club is my hobby, football and training are my hobby. My whole life revolves around Ajax. Oh, it was all so painful.”

Tahamata has a clear opinion about Ajax's actions. “How we treat our icons is unworthy of Ajax. John Heitinga stepped in as head coach, with all the risks that entails, at the club's request because he is an Ajax player and was promptly dismissed. Michel Kreek was sent away, just like Winston (Bogarde, ed.) and Gerald (Vanenburg, ed.). I didn't even see Winston and Gerald leave, I just had to read it.”

“It happened that fast,” Tahamata recalled. “Then it was my turn. We don't deserve that. If it continues like this, we won't have any icons left. I think that's terrible.”
