Al-Sadd doesn’t seem to want to say goodbye to Xavi just like that. The trainer of the Qatari top club is often mentioned as a successor to Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, but in a statement via social media, Al-Sadd points to his ongoing contract. According to Al-Sadd, Xavi is completely focused on his work in Qatar.
“In response to recent news, Al-Sadd’s management reaffirms that Xavi has a two-year contract with the club,” the club wrote. “He is fully focused on the team’s upcoming matches, on maintaining our lead in the league and on prolonging the league title.” Al-Sadd won the first seven games of the new season in Qatar and is three points ahead of number two Al-Duhail.

With the statement, Al-Sadd creates new uncertainty about the interpretation of the trainer position at Barcelona. Thursday claimed Sport even that Xavi has reached an agreement with Barcelona on a multi-year contract. Catalunya Radio added that all is in readiness for the arrival of the former midfielder, who would be on the bench for the first time at Barca on Saturday, November 6 against Celta de Vigo.
According to reports from Sport Xavi’s contract includes a lump sum of one million euros. Immediately after Koeman’s resignation on Wednesday evening, the club management turned to the club legend.
