Ajax will certainly make an attempt next summer to take over Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Mike Verweij’s firm expectation. The journalist from The Telegraph expects that a transfer of the 23-year-old attacker to Amsterdam will be a difficult matter, because the asking price of Tottenham is likely to be very high.

“Ajax is in the market for Bergwijn, but I think he is very expensive. Even if he is allowed to leave Spurs,” Verweij says in the podcast. Kick-Off from The Telegraph. “Maybe Ajax will eventually end up with a cheaper alternative, but they will certainly try to get Bergwijn.” Verweij adds that Ajax will only go for Bergwijn if David Neres is sold.

Valentijn Driessen also believes that the team from Amsterdam has serious interest in the Tottenham attacker. “I have heard that he is definitely on one to pick up as an attacker to pick up”, said the journalist, who thinks that Ajax will have to dig deep into his pockets. “Ajax thinks it can collect him for 15 million euros, but the asking price will be at least 25 million.”

Bergwijn came over from PSV for thirty million euros less than a year and a half ago, but has not been able to fully convince in London. The wing striker sat on the bench more often than he played and for that reason dropped out of Frank de Boer’s pre-selection for the European Championship. In total, Bergwijn reached 1,838 minutes of play in 35 official matches, in which he scored 1 goal and 7 assists. Incidentally, the wing striker was also through in his PSV time The Telegraph frequently associated with Ajax, but it did not come from a concrete offer.
