Jorge Sánchez will continue his career at FC Porto. Fabrizio Romano announced this on Thursday morning with his characteristic ‘here we go’. According to the Italian journalist, the Mexican will first be rented for a year. Porto has an option to buy for four million euros, which can be made mandatory under certain conditions. It is not (yet) known what conditions these are.

Two weeks ago it was announced that Porto was expressly interested in the services of Ajax’s right back. The Telegraph previously reported that the Amsterdammers agreed in principle with Chivas de Guadalajara, but Romano contradicted that a little later. In addition, Sánchez saw nothing at all in a transfer to Mexico. So he does like a step to Portugal.

Sánchez was added to Ajax’s selection at the last minute last summer. With a transfer fee of approximately 5 million euros, the Mexican is one of the most expensive right backs in club history, but could not live up to it in his first season. He was unable to win the competition against Devyne Rensch and is therefore already on his way to the exit a year after his arrival.

The team from Amsterdam was already preparing for Sánchez’s departure, as Anton Gaaei was taken over from Viborg FF last week. Ajax reportedly pays about 4.5 million euros for the twenty-year-old Dane, who will compete with Rensch in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Sánchez, who won the Gold Cup with Mexico this summer, sat on the bench for ninety minutes during the league games against Heracles Almelo (4-1 win) and Excelsior (2-2).
