Ajax Under 19 booked a 0-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund’s peers in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon; a great achievement after the 1-5 defeat against the Germans two weeks ago at Sportpark De Toekomst. Christian Rasmussen took care of the winning goal after fifteen minutes of play. Ajax Under 19 has collected seven points in the group after four matches and is now on as many points as the leader BVB, which has a better goal difference. Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. Ajax will play the first in the Champions League against Dortmund.

Ajax was threatening a few times in the opening phase, but this did not yet lead to great opportunities. For example, Kristian Hlynsson tried in vain to reach Axel Dongen’s Amourricho with a nice bow ball. After fifteen minutes of play, the young team of trainer Dave Vos managed to break the spell. Tristan Gooijer forced goalkeeper Silas Ostrzinski to make a save with a hard shot from long range. The rebound fell at the feet of Hlynsson, who then gave wide to Rasmussen. The Danish attacker was able to tap in from close range: 0-1.

Dortmund came into the game better with half an hour on the clock. The Germans already created danger once via a free kick and the game was played more on half of the visitors fifteen minutes before half-time. For the home team, ex-Ajacied Julian Rijkhoff was left behind in the dressing room at the start of the second half. The sixteen-year-old striker made the switch from Ajax to Dortmund in January. Where the attacker was one of the stars on the German side two weeks ago in Amsterdam, he was not involved in Dortmund on Wednesday.

The picture of the game did not change in the second half. Ajax was well organized defensively and tried to come out dangerous in the counter-attack, especially via Rafael Sarfo. However, the quick attacker lacked the overview for the final pass. Ten minutes before the end, the home team started a final offensive. Olivier Aertssen threw himself in front of a shot by Bradley Fink, who was able to hit from a promising position. At the start of injury time, goalkeeper Charlie Setford gave Ajax the three points with a clever save.
