Ajax has found a successor for Roy Steur. The goalkeeper who left for Bayer Leverkusen is replaced by Mert Alegoz, who comes over from Sparta Rotterdam. Ajax trumps Feyenoord, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, among others, who were also in the race for the signature of the only sixteen-year-old goalie, reports Ajax Showtime. Alegoz joins Ajax’s Under-17 team.

Since the departure of Steur, Ajax has been looking for a new goalkeeper and has found it in the person of Alegoz. Alegoz defended the goal of Sparta Under-16 last season and will end up in the Under-17 with the team from Amsterdam. Ajax has not yet announced the arrival of the young goalkeeper, while Alegoz himself has changed his Linkedin profile. He also recently liked the message about Dusan Tadic’s contract extension at Ajax.

Alegoz also had the opportunity to go to Feyenoord, Galatasaray or Fenerbahçe, but preferred a transfer to Ajax. It is not the first time this year that Ajax has won when it comes to recruiting a youth player. In May of this year it was announced that Kayden Wolff, who was also coveted by Feyenoord, is coming to Ajax. On the other hand, PSV outsmarted Ajax in the battle for Yiandro Raap. The central defender was taken over from Feyenoord by the Eindhoven team.

Alegoz, taken over from Sparta, has to fill the gap that Steur left behind earlier this month. Steur was snatched away from Ajax Under-17 by Bayer Leverkusen. The sixteen-year-old goalkeeper would be active for the youth selection of the Amsterdam team next season, but prefers a German adventure to a longer stay at Ajax. Steur’s new employer only pays a training allowance. The talented goalkeeper has already played for Ajax in the past seven seasons, after he was removed from RKAV Volendam in the summer of 2015.
