Lisandro Martínez extends his contract with Ajax. According to The Telegraph the 23-year-old Argentine defender has agreed with director of football affairs Marc Overmars about a contract until the summer of 2025. Martínez’s previous contract expired in mid-2023, although the team from Amsterdam had the option to extend that contract for a year.

Martínez’s new contract, which comes with a salary increase, does not come out of the blue. Overmars already announced at an earlier stage that an agreement was imminent. The parties involved have now agreed on the conditions. “We are basically looking forward to it with the club. Lisandro is not yet ready at Ajax,” Martinez’ agent Steinar Dietz of Essel Sports told the newspaper.

Martínez has been under contract in the Johan Cruijff ArenA since the summer of 2019. At the time, Ajax took him over from Defensa y Justicia for an amount of approximately seven million euros. Overmars brought the Argentine to Amsterdam because of the possible departure of Tagliafico, who at the time was in the interest of various foreign clubs. Nevertheless, Tagliafico still plays at Ajax.

In his first season, Martínez frequently played in midfield as a controller. Last season, Ten Hag let him down a line and he is mainly used as a center defender, while he can also play as a left back. In the shirt of Ajax, Martínez played in the spotlight with the national team of Argentina. His counter now stands at three international matches.
