Ajax has resumed the competition in dramatic fashion after the international break. When visiting FC Twente, Maurice Steijn’s team fell behind 2-0 within 12 minutes. Daan Rots and Sem Steijn scored the goals.

Ajax hoped to recover after the draw at Fortuna Sittard before the international break (0-0). However, things went wrong early in Enschede. Michel Vlap fired at Gorter from close range and the Ajax goalie was unable to parry sufficiently. Rots gratefully took advantage of this and, after another half save from Gorter, made it 1-0.

Sem Steijn, of all people, got his father into further trouble. Gorter hit Michal Sadilek’s attempt to the outside, where Manfred Ugalde was able to pick up. The Twente striker laid the ball ready for Steijn, who tapped in in front of the open goal: 2-0. This is the fastest 2-0 deficit for Ajax since October 2008, when SC Heerenveen was the opponent.
