Ajax and Arsenal have reached an agreement on the transfer of Tommy Setford, reports David Ornstein on behalf of The AthleticThe English youth international earns Ajax one million euros plus bonuses. According to The Telegraph signs Setford until mid-2028.

Both clubs have been in talks for some time about a transfer of the eighteen-year-old goalkeeper. Arsenal sees in Setford a goalkeeper with great potential who is highly regarded in England.

The goalkeeping talent reportedly signs a three-year contract and will initially join Arsenal's Under-20s, with only the paperwork still to be completed.

Setford's arrival is the next step in the goalkeeping overhaul of Arsenal's academy, having already said goodbye to Ovie Ejeheri, James Hillson and Arthur Okonkwo this summer.

It is expected that more goalkeepers will be brought in alongside Setford to get the goalkeeping guild back to full strength.

Recently, eighteen-year-old Danish youth international Lucas Nygaard was signed, who is known to goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana. Nygaard comes over from FC Nordsjaelland, where Cana was goalkeeper coach for a year.

Arsenal are also looking to strengthen their first team. A bid for Daniel Bentley was rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The thirty-year-old Englishman is seen as a backup for David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale.

Tommy Setford was born in Haarlem, just like his brother Charlie, who also plays for Ajax. However, the brothers have an English father and in that context the goalkeepers play youth internationals for England.

Setford played 21 international matches for various England youth teams over the years. Last year he gained experience during the Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia. England went through the group stage without any difficulty, but were surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 by Uzbekistan (1-2 defeat).
