Ajax has reported to Sparta Rotterdam for Maduka Okoye, so assures us RTV Rijnmondreporter Dennis van Eersel in the talk show FC Rijnmond. Also the Algemeen Dagblad states that the 21-year-old goalkeeper is on ‘numerous lists of clubs’, although the newspaper does not mention any specifically interested clubs.

According to it AD Okoye is the next Sparta player to bring the club millions of euros. The Nigerian international made an excellent impression against VVV-Venlo (0-1 win) on Tuesday and that has not gone unnoticed by interested clubs, according to the newspaper. Okoye has a contract at Het Kasteel until mid-2023 and Sparta has the unilateral option to extend that contract for another two seasons. The Eredivisionist will therefore ask a ‘substantial transfer fee’ for him. No concrete offer would have been received yet.

Van Eersel features in his broadcaster’s talk show RTV Rijnmond more news about Okoye. “I know that the first Dutch top club has already registered for him,” said Van Eersel, who is somewhat mysterious about which club that is. “It is not the top club around the corner”, says the reporter, referring to Feyenoord. Geert den Ouden then states that the PSV cannot be either, because the Eindhoven players are close to the arrival of FC Twente goalkeeper Joël Drommel.

Okoye is a 1.98 meter goalkeeper, who was recruited by Sparta at Fortuna Düsseldorf last summer. The goalie started the season as second choice behind Benjamin van Leer, but came under the bar after Sparta’s dramatic start in early November. Since then, Okoye has played nineteen Eredivisie games. He also played five times for the Nigerian team, for which he was invited again at the end of March for the qualifying matches for the Africa Cup against Benin and Lesotho.
