Mohamed Daramy did not make a good impression on Saturday evening in his second international match for Denmark. The winger, who makes the switch from FC Copenhagen to Ajax for thirteen million euros, was substituted after 45 minutes of play in the World Cup qualifier against Faroe Islands. Danish media are critical of the 19-year-old winger’s performance, while national coach Kasper Hjulmand revealed why he replaced Daramy at halftime.

Daramy made his debut in the national team of Denmark against Scotland (2-0 win) last Wednesday. Hjulmand rewarded the winger on Saturday evening with his basic debut in and against Faroe Islands. The national coach made no fewer than nine changes compared to the game with Scotland. Like Daramy, Rasmus Nissen Kristensen also made his basic debut.

After the first half, the game was already over for both Daramy and Kristensen with a 0-0 score. Just before half time, Daramy ran into a yellow card for holding. “Who knows what could have happened if he was suddenly late. I doubted, because I did not know what the limit was for the referee. That’s why I hesitated to let it stand. He didn’t really get through it either,” said the national coach afterwards.

The Danish BT Daramy, only for the first time in the Danish selection, gave only one out of six possible stars in the rating. “Daramy should have topped off his three fantastic weeks by going crazy with some Faroe backs. Instead, Daramy had a dull debut and looked a bit too much like a youth player.”

The entire Danish team can work on a lot of criticism from their own country. The semi-finalist of the last European Championship had a lot of trouble scoring in Faroe Islands. It was only five minutes before the end that Jonas Older Wind scored the only goal of the game. The FC Copenhagen attacker thus prevented a disgrace and Denmark’s first loss of points in the World Cup qualifier. Hjulmand’s team is at the top of Group F after five games with fifteen points.
