Ajax and FC Copenhagen have reached an agreement about Mohamed Daramy, Danish media reported on Sunday afternoon. For a long time, Club Brugge seemed to have the best papers to take over the nineteen-year-old right winger, but the latest offer from director of football affairs Marc Overmars would have been the deciding factor. However, FC Copenhagen assures in a statement on the club site that ‘an offer has been received for Mohamed Daramy, from AFC Ajax’, but denies that an agreement has been reached with the Amsterdam club.

“Negotiations are currently underway between the parties and there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached.” FC Copenhagen also indicates that a move to Club Brugge was not preferred by Daramy. Various media in Denmark write that it will be a transfer fee of twelve to fourteen million euros for the teenager and that would also be the most expensive outgoing transfer in FC Copenhagen’s club history.

Born in Denmark and whose parents are from Sierra Leone, Daramy was added to FC Copenhagen’s youth academy at the age of fourteen and quickly became a sensation. A year later, for example, he was the top scorer of the Under-17 and after that he was the youngest debutant ever in the first at 16 years and 263 days. He immediately added a goal to his debut in a cup match. Daramy made his league debut in December 2018. The counter of the attacker, who plays for the Denmark Under-21, stands at 17 goals in 91 official matches.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Overmars still has ‘a jar’ of sixteen million euros available. The director of player affairs may spend that amount on a player who is seen as a direct reinforcement, as was the case with Kamaldeen Sulemana. The attacker chose Stade Rennes at the last minute, which meant that Ajax was still looking for an attacking reinforcement with speed. Possibly Daramy is ultimately the chosen one.

It is expected that Ajax and FC Copenhagen will announce the transfer in the course of next week. One of the conditions in the impending agreement between the clubs will be that Daramy is still with the Danes when the Danes face Sivasspor in the Conference League on Thursday. Jess Thorup’s team won 1-2 in Turkey last Thursday. That means that Daramy may still get playing time today in the competition match with Sønderjyske.
