There is still a chance that Mohammed Kudus will play in the Africa Cup on behalf of Ghana. The midfielder of Ajax is injured, but has been placed on a reserve list by national coach Milovan Rajevac. The trainer refuses to put Kudus out of his mind. Ajax has already indicated several times that it does not feel like giving up Kudus, as the Ghanaian is recovering from an injury and came back injured after the previous international break.

Kudus is part of Ghana’s 28-man squad for the Africa Cup, but has not yet traveled to his native country due to a rib injury. Ajax then decided to take him on a training camp to Portugal, where he fully trained with the group on Wednesday. If it’s up to the team from Amsterdam, Kudus will stay with the selection, but Rajevac thinks differently. The Ghana national coach refuses to put the midfielder out of his mind and calls on him if necessary.

“We all know the qualities of Mohammed Kudus, he is the future of Ghanaian and African football,” Rajevac said. 3Sports. “He plays for Ajax, a strong team in Europe. So we know how much he can add to our squad and are willing to wait for him. He can help us at some point, when we think he is fit.” For Ghana, the African Cup tournament starts on Monday 10 January with the first group match against Morocco. The African Nations Cup will officially start the day before.

In November, Kudus broke his rib during the World Cup qualifier against South Africa (1-0 win). Since then, the Ghanaian has been sidelined. While preparing for the current season, Kudus also suffered an ankle injury, which prevented him from playing more than six games during the first half of the season. Journalist Freek Jansen van Football International reports on Wednesday that Kudus is fully training with the group again. He was sidelined last season due to a meniscus injury. Due to all the injuries, the 21-year-old midfielder has only played 28 official matches for Ajax since he came over from FC Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2020.
