Valencia wants to say goodbye to Jasper Cillessen at all costs this summer, as you know marca to report. The 32-year-old goalkeeper puts a heavy burden on the budget of the number thirteen of the past LaLiga season with an amount of thirteen million euros per year, who is therefore prepared to listen to any reasonable offer. In that respect, a concrete option has been lost with Ajax, as the team from Amsterdam is provided for next season in terms of goalkeepers.

The Spanish sports newspaper writes that Ajax was a ‘serious option’ for Cillessen and therefore also considered a ‘possible solution’ for Valencia. Los Che took over the sixty-time the Dutch international from Barcelona in the summer of 2019 in an exchange deal that ensured that Neto went the opposite way. The transfer came to be in the books for 35 million euros, which means that 8.75 million euros per year will be written off on Cillessen. Together with his salary, Cillessen costs Valencia thirteen million euros per year.

It is the reason that Valencia would like to say goodbye to Cillessen. Any offer coming in for him this summer will be considered. In that respect, Ajax has been an option for a long time, but the possibility of a return to the club where he was under contract between 2011 and 2016 has now disappeared. Even before the transfer window opens, it is already clear that Ajax will not be bringing in a keeper this summer. It is obvious that André Onana will be sold, but with the transfer-free arrival of Remko Pasveer and the contract extension of Maarten Stekelenburg, this has already been anticipated.

It will hurt Valencia even more that Jasper Cillessen will not play at the European Championship due to a corona infection. The tournament had been an extra opportunity for the goalkeeper to put himself in the spotlight, but national coach Frank de Boer decided not to take any risks with his availability and fitness and gave his place in the European Championship selection to AZ keeper Marco Bizot. Cillessen still has a contract with Valencia until mid-2023 and has been under the bar in forty official games for the Spanish club for the time being.
