Noussair Mazraoui has had an unlucky season, as he had to miss the necessary matches due to two different injuries. The 23-year-old right-back annex defensive midfielder is determined to take revenge for that next year. “This should definitely be my season. I’m looking forward to it and super motivated,” Mazraoui said in an interview with The Telegraph.

“I have had too many injuries due to bad luck. Now I may have luck on my side, I think,” says the Moroccan international. He was sidelined for more than two months last season with an eye injury. “I got a ball in my eye and it caused some damage in the form of blood clots. The pressure could pull on my retina. The blood had to get out of my eye before I could continue. Now it is risk-free.”

“The holiday didn’t turn out very well, because I was just fit again, but not yet match fit. This preparation allowed me to take the last step. I feel good, have no more physical problems and want to keep it that way,” Mazraoui continues. The contract of the right back in Amsterdam will continue until mid-2022 and The Telegraph writes that attempts to break open that commitment have been fruitless.

“The status…? That we are still in talks and have to see what comes out,” reacts Mazraoui, whose place in the right-back position was taken over by Devyne Rensch last season. “Ajax is my club. I’m playing here for the 16th season and I’m comfortable in my skin, so I won’t be leaving very soon. The goal is to have a good year without injuries. I will leave the negotiations with Ajax to my agent and I hope we can work it out.”
