Ajax wants to appoint Gerry Hamstra as the right hand of director of football affairs Marc Overmars, it reports Algemeen Dagblad. Hamstra left earlier this week after a conflict as technical manager of sc Heerenveen and has already held talks with Ajax. Hamstra will occupy a new position to be forged in Amsterdam.

The intention is that the manager who left Heerenveen will form a link between Overmars and the youth academy. Hamstra has to take over a number of positions from the director of football affairs in the capital that relate to the academy. One of the tasks of the former trainer of FC Emmen will be to attract new youth players and thus also conduct the contract negotiations.

Hamstra left Heerenveen immediately on Tuesday. In the recent period ‘a growing difference of opinion has arisen about the vision and strategy for the future of the football department’, according to the statement released by the Frisians. It Algemeen Dagblad adds that Hamstra was dissatisfied with the club’s limited financial capabilities. The fact that Hamstra was conducting talks with Ajax accelerated the break with Heerenveen.
