Ajax hopes that André Onana will stay with the club longer. The Amsterdammers are in talks with the suspended goalkeeper about a new contract, his agent Albert Botines confirms The Telegraph. Onana’s current contract expires next summer.

“We are in talks with Ajax about a new contract for André”, says Botines. “And yes, it is a possibility that he will join.” Onana was suspended for a year in early February for taking the banned drug furosemide. The team from Amsterdam is challenging the doping suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but keep in mind that Onana will also have to miss a large part of next season.

Given his current contract until mid-2022 and his suspension, it is almost impossible for Ajax to get a decent transfer fee for Onana at the moment. The 24-year-old Cameroonian wanted to take a step to the absolute top last summer. Onana was allowed to leave Ajax for 25 million euros, but no European superpower came forward with that amount in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. In total Onana is on 204 official appearances for Ajax.
