Ajax expects Stade Rennes to report with a new offer for Edson Álvarez, Valentijn Driessen stated The the Dutch Summer. The team from Amsterdam referred an initial offer of eighteen million euros to the 23-year-old Mexican to the trash, but, according to Driessen, they want to cooperate for only two million euros more. In that case, Steven Bergwijn will once again seriously come into the picture at Ajax.
On Friday, Mike Verweij, colleague of Driessen, added The Telegraph notification of Stade Rennes’ offer for Álvarez. “It was an opening offer of around eighteen million euros, a huge offer that makes you think: shouldn’t you consider that?”, said the journalist. “But Edson Álvarez has fought well in the base of Ajax. Where he did not appear in Erik ten Hag’s plans in the beginning, he is now apparently indispensable. So that sale was not negotiable.”
Driessen had more news on Tuesday. “Rennes will come back, and if twenty million euros is immediately on the table, he can leave,” the journalist knows. “Then they would like to get Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham Hotspur. He would also like to return (to the Netherlands, ed.).” According to Driessen, Ajax currently does not consider it responsible to buy Bergwijn, although that could change with the money that Álvarez brings in.
“Ajax can now only rent, but Tottenham does not want to participate in that,” says Driessen. “Bergwijn must cost around 25 million euros. But Marc Overmars (director of player affairs, ed.) will not be allowed to spend that 25 million without selling someone.” Tottenham itself paid thirty million euros to PSV for Bergwijn a year and a half ago.
