Ajax has not yet given up hope on Graham Potter, club watcher Johan Inan reports in the AD Football podcast. Monday it seemed Sky Sports to put a definitive end to the rumors about the arrival of the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager to Ajax, but according to Inan, no definitive line has been put through the name of the English manager yet.

“Certainly from Ajax, no line has been drawn from his name yet. I saw in recent weeks that Potter has declined the vacancy at Ajax, but he has not officially done so. Ajax still sees him as an option. In fact, he is prominent. still at the top of the list.”

However, the suspension of general manager Alex Kroes has not made Potter's arrival any easier, according to Inan. Due to a non-competition clause from AZ, Kroes had to wait for months before he could officially start working at Ajax last month, on March 15.

“He also used his 'sabbatical' to further expand his already large network,” Inan explains. “Kroes has been to several top clubs in England, has strengthened ties with certain managements and has also tried to get to know several managers. One of these was Graham Potter. That clicked. During the past international match, they sat around the table together again, including Kelvin de Lang and Marijn Beuker.”

Kroes was subsequently suspended by the Supervisory Board of Ajax for allegedly trading in the club's shares with insider information. Kroes does not want to budge, but Supervisory Board chairman Michael van Praag once again emphasized on Thursday that there is no way back for the suspended general manager, not even in another technical position.

“Potter had a click with Kroes, he started itching to build a new Ajax with Kroes,” Inan indicates. “Then he saw Kroes being suspended. But it is not the case that he has now rejected the Ajax option. is an interesting trainer, also for Premier League clubs.”

“I think he will hold off for now, also to see how things will progress at Ajax. The big question is whether he is willing to join Ajax if Kroes does not return. Ajax also hopes to talk to him again soon without Kroes.”
