Ajax has conquered the national title for the 35th time in club history. Erik ten Hag’s team only had a point against FC Emmen on Sunday, but achieved a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Jurriën Timber, Sébastien Haller, Devyne Rensch and Davy Klaassen. With three matches to go Ajax can no longer be traced by PSV. The club thus qualifies again for the group stage of the Champions League. Earlier this season Ajax also took the TOTO KNVB Cup.

Ajax led 1-0 in the first half, but was not sovereign. Especially in the end of the first half, Emmen bit away. The visitors kept on looking for carelessness in Ajax’s defense and immediately got a big chance through Luka Adzic. The left winger was able to head in freely after a cross from Caner Cavlan, but did not give his effort enough direction. The only goal of the first half was scored in the tenth minute by Timber. Emmen did not clear the ball properly from the penalty area, which created a shooting opportunity for the defender around the edge of the penalty area. Due to weak intervention by Michael Verrips, the ball ended up low in the right corner.

After the goal, Haller in particular had opportunities to double the margin. He bumped into Verrips within a few minutes, headed over the goal and shot a meter wide. In the second half, the record purchase still struck. After an hour Haller got the ball through a bouncer from Davy Klaassen. He escaped offside and outwitted the hatched Verrips. A few minutes later, Rensch made it 3-0 from a header. The defender stormed forward and received a measured cross from Dusan Tadic at the far post. Shortly thereafter, Edson failed Álvarez to make it 4-0 from a header; earlier in the second half, with a 1-0 score, the midfielder had also missed a good header opportunity.

Verrips then had a good save on a header from Haller after a corner, but Klaassen made it 4-0. Ajax took over the ball after a kick from Verrips and again Tadic delivered the decisive cross. For the Amsterdammers, the title party can start with this. In the final phase of the match, supporters already gathered in large numbers around the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The municipality of Amsterdam has called on supporters not to come to the stadium because it is too busy. Ajax will receive the bowl from KNVB director Eric Gudde.
