Amourricho van Axel Dongen has been named the greatest talent of Ajax’s youth academy last season. The talented left winger received the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy on Tuesday and is therefore the successor of Devyne Rensch, last year’s winner. Van Axel Dongen has been playing in the Ajax training since the 2013/14 season.

According to Ajax, Van Axel Dongen has developed himself into ‘an eye-catcher at De Toekomst’ through his creativity and speed. The sixteen-year-old youth international was added to the selection of Young Ajax by trainer Mitchell van der Gaag last season. At the beginning of May he made his debut in professional football against De Graafschap. In his first game in the Kitchen Champion Division he was good for an assist, while he managed to score in his second game against Telstar.

“I did not expect it at all. I want to thank all my fellow players and the trainers. It is a very nice list that I now end up in”, the talent responds after winning the individual prize. Head of youth academy Saïd Ouaali praises Van Axel Dongen on the club website: “His individual action, play in the small space and overview make him a very special player.”
