CALVIN Marlin (coach) reckons his Ajax Cape Town squads have been pumped up for today’s important Premier League match against Swallows FC, their big rivals. The fight is also dubbed a “six-pointer” in the race for promotion to the Premier League. That’s because the second-placed Swallows (45 points) are six points behind Ajax (51) leading the way in the league with four games left. This follows after the Urban Warriors got stuck with 0-1 against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC (TTM) at the weekend. Swallows in turn stopped Real Kings by the same score. It cannot be overemphasized how important today’s fight is for Ajax’s future. The Urban Warriors have been struggling since the previous two seasons to get out of the so-called graveyard league. According to Marlin, he expects a difficult battle against Swallows today (13:00) in the Rand Stadium. “I think my players are ready because they know what’s at stake,” Marlin explained. “You also have to realize that you will not be able to win every game. That’s why we moved on from the previous (defeat) match. “I think we are still in a good position. “Our fate is also still in our own hands,” Marlin added. The Parow team will again have to do without Grant Margeman, his talisman in the engine room. The national o. 23-player suspended their match against TTM due to an ankle injury. Nevertheless, Marlin has enough talent at his disposal to bury Swallows’ dreams once and for all. Marlin, who has been Ajax’s interim coach since Andries Ulderink controversially left the club in January, also deserves high praise for his cool-headed approach despite his limited experience as head coach. Focused According to Marlin, the key approach was not to torment his team too much. “I think coach Ulderink laid good bosses before he left the club,” Marlin explained. “I just had to build on that and make sure the players stay focused,” he said.
