Danny Blind will be nominated as a technical man on the Supervisory Board of Ajax on December 27, 2023. The people of Amsterdam announced on Wednesday evening that an extraordinary meeting for shareholders will be held on that day.

Ajax announced at the end of October that Blind would be officially nominated as a member of the Supervisory Board. Then all that remained was to find a suitable date for an extraordinary meeting for shareholders.

Blind already has experience in the role of commissioner at Ajax. The 493-time Ajax player was also a member of the Supervisory Board in the period from April 2018 to August 2021. Blind then became Louis van Gaal’s assistant with the Dutch national team, until the 2022 World Cup. To date, he has only done some extra work as an analyst.

In December he stated that he ‘wanted his hands free’. Now Blind will return to Ajax after Van Gaal’s intercession.

Van Gaal himself was the third in the line of figureheads who had to bring the ‘Ajax DNA’ back to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Michael van Praag and Leo van Wijk (SB members) preceded Van Gaal, while John van ‘t Schip (technical advisor and interim coach this season) came after him.

In addition to player and commissioner, Blind held many other positions in Amsterdam. He was previously director of player policy, head of youth training, head coach, assistant coach and technical director at Ajax. For the remainder, Blind only worked for the Dutch national team as national coach and assistant national coach.

Van Praag and Van Wijk
A general meeting for shareholders is scheduled for next Friday. Van Praag and Van Wijk will then be nominated as new members of the Supervisory Board. The former is the intended successor to the recently departed chairman Pier Eringa.
