Jürgen Locadia is the new striker of Cangzhou Mighty Lions. The Chinese club announces this through the official channels. Locadia was able to make the switch on a free transfer, as he left Persepolis from Iran at the end of 2022. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for that country to be avoided after the massive riots that broke out there and Locadia complied.

From that moment on, Locadia was transfer-free and he could have gone to the Eredivisie during the winter break. FC Emmen hoped for the services of the 29-year-old striker, but he decided to wait for another challenge. He now gets that with his transfer to last season’s number twelve in the Chinese Super League. It is not clear how long Locadia is now tied with Cangzhou Mighty Lions, which has signed more non-Chinese.

For example, Locadia will play together with Deabeas Owusu-Sekyere, a Dutch Ghanaian who came over from Paide Linnameeskond from Estonia. Mile Skoric, a Croatian defender who was taken over from NK Osijek, and the Kazakh Belgian Georgiy Zhukov will also be new teammates of Locadia. Next week, Cangzhou Mighty Lions will start the season with an away game against Tianjin Jinmen Tigers.

The attacker, born in Emmen, experienced his breakthrough in professional football at PSV. After a good period in the Philips Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion paid no less than seventeen million euros for the striker. He was never able to live up to that amount. After rental periods to Hoffenheim and Cincinnati, it came from a transfer-free departure the Seagullsafter which he still played at VfL Bochum and therefore at Persepolis.
