The interest in Gabriel Gudmundsson begins to take more and more serious forms. The left wing defender could already count on interest from Atalanta and is now also coveted by AC Milan, as you know Football International to report. FC Groningen is aware of the interest of the Italian superpower, but says it has not yet received an offer for the left leg.

Atalanta’s interest in Gudmundsson has to do with a possible departure of Robin Gosens. The German has personally had an excellent European Championship and can make a nice transfer this summer. Gosens still has a contract until mid-2022 in Bergamo, but failed attempts by the club to extend his contract. In the event of a departure, Atalanta sees Gudmundsson as a worthy replacement. Groningen has been informed of the interest through the Swede’s representatives.

Italian journalist Nicolò Schira reports that Milan is also a serious candidate in the race for Gudmundsson’s signature. The Italian superpower is said to have stepped up the hunt for the defender, it sounds like. It is expected that Groningen will require an amount between four and five million euros, as Gudmundsson’s contract continues until next summer. Groningen also has an option to extend the contract for an extra year.

Gudmundsson was brought to the Netherlands by Groningen in the summer of 2019. In his debut season in the Eredivisie, he made eleven appearances, four times as a basic player. Last season he was a lot more successful with 20 base appearances from 23 games. In it, the left back delivered five assists. Gudmundsson used to be a winger, but was turned into a left wing defender by trainer Danny Buijs last season.
