The Dutch national team defeated Turkey 2-1 in the quarter finals of the European Championship on Saturday evening after a hard-fought match. Stefan de Vrij and an own goal by Mert Muldur ensured the turnaround. In the semi-finals, a duel with England awaits, who were too strong for Switzerland after penalties. Football zone rates the the Dutch players who played for at least 45 minutes with a grade.

Bart Verbruggen: 6.5

Bart Verbruggen is the undisputed number one under the bar of national coach Ronald Koeman at this European Championship. While he distinguished himself against France with crucial saves, he had little to do during the convincing victory over Romania. The 21-year-old goalkeeper was rooted to the spot during Turkey's opening goal after a deflected corner kick, allowing Akaydin to head in. After the break, Verbruggen impressed with a strong save, preventing Turkey from making it 2-0. The goalkeeper also showed great reflexes in the final stages.

Denzel Dumfries: 5

Earlier in the tournament, Denzel Dumfries had some hamstring problems. He returned to the starting line-up during the 3-0 win over Romania in the round of 16 and retained his place in the first eleven against Turkey. The right back made a huge mistake ten minutes before half-time when he let a blocked ball from Nathan Aké go over the back line instead of clearing it.

From the ensuing corner kick, Samet Akaydin headed Turkey into the lead after Dumfries lifted offside on a cross from Arda Güler. The wing defender was not in the game at all, yet he was decisive in the turnaround of the Dutch. From his dangerous cross behind the Turkish defence, Mert Muldur shot the ball into his own goal.

Stefan de Vrij: 8

Stefan de Vrij has made a solid impression throughout the entire final tournament. He was also important several times on Saturday evening in the quarter finals by intervening well. He had no direct opponent against Turkey, which meant he had to keep an eye on the danger of running people and he succeeded in doing so. At the moment that the Dutch team just couldn't seem to get through the stubborn Turkish defence, they came alongside thanks to a good header from De Vrij.

Virgil van Dijk: 6

On Saturday night, Koeman gave Virgil van Dijk the task of covering the false striker Güler. Because the Turkish top talent dropped so far back, Van Dijk had little to cover. In the first half, the captain of the Dutch national team was not to blame. With over an hour on the clock, Van Dijk was given a yellow card for pushing Baris Alper Yilmaz over illegally. It was one of the few slip-ups by the man-marker.

Nathan Ake: 6

Like Dumfries, Nathan Aké also struggled with minor complaints. The left back was substituted early against Romania as a precaution. In the match against Turkey, he was able to start 'normally' again. Aké had his hands full with Yilmaz, without making any really big mistakes. With a yellow card in his pocket, Koeman decided to substitute him for Micky van de Ven twenty minutes before the end.

Jerdy Schouten: 6.5

With his clean passing and calmness on the ball, Jerdy Schouten was perhaps the biggest star in the eighth finals for the Dutch team. He also proved his worth against the Turks in this way. Although the communication about taking over Guler with Van Dijk and Reijnders seemed to be getting worse after a strong opening phase.

Tijjani Reijnders: 5

Together with Schouten, Reijnders had to maintain the balance in midfield in Berlin. He stood out before half-time because of his defensive work, but also suffered sloppy ball loss once. In attack, Reijnders could not make the difference with his creativity on the ball. Also, the sagging Güler was given too much space too often as the match progressed. Reijnders was substituted for Joey Veerman twenty minutes before the end.

Xavi Simons: 5

Koeman thought Xavi Simons was the best on the Dutch side against Romania because of his drive, positioning and aggression in the duels. He also regularly freed himself against Turkey with runs. After this, only frequent sloppy ball loss followed, both before and after the break. With half an hour on the clock, Simons also received a rather unnecessary yellow card.

Steven Bergwijn 4:

Koeman again chose Steven Bergwijn against Turkey, despite Donyell Malen being expected in his place. Bergwijn had problems with his patellar tendon, but had recovered in time to start on Saturday evening. He was unable to continue his strong performance against Romania. He was virtually invisible in the first half, which was reason for Koeman to replace him with Wout Weghorst at half-time.

Memphis Depay: 5.5

Memphis Depay had not yet shown his absolute top form at this European Championship until Saturday evening. In the duel with the Turks, he had a serious opportunity after exactly one minute, but he ruined it by shooting high over the bar. The striker then worked hard and won the ball sometimes. However, he disappointed again in attack. This also happened early in the second half after substitute Wout Weghorst put the ball wide with his head. Nevertheless, he was at the basis of the 1-1 by providing the assist for De Vrij's equalizer.

Cody Gakpo: 5

With a goal and an assist, Cody Gakpo once again took the Netherlands by the hand in the round of 16 against Romania. Thanks to his opening goal, he also shot himself to the top of the top scorers list of the European Championship. Against Turkey, Gakpo, like the entire attacking line before half-time, did not have it. The left winger played unluckily with few successful dribbles. He was important in the 1-2 of the Dutch. Thanks to his presence, Mert Muldur worked the ball into his own goal.

Wout Weghorst: 7

Koeman knew he had to change something at half-time when he was 0-1 down and brought Weghorst in for Bergwijn. With the towering striker in the team, Oranje could play more opportunistically. He immediately offered Memphis a big opportunity by keeping his overview and heading the ball wide. Halfway through the second half, the Netherlands saved the day by clearing the ball after Verbruggen had to allow a rebound.
