Abdou Harroui will possibly leave Sparta Rotterdam during this transfer period. The talented midfielder is in the serious interest of FC Groningen, where he has come into the picture as a potential successor to Ajdin Hrustic. The latter, in turn, has put himself in the spotlight with German clubs and looks on his way to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 22-year-old Dutch youth international played in the spotlight at Groningen. “A good player, otherwise of course we won’t make him an offer”, says trainer Danny Buijs in conversation with Football International. “It’s up to Mark-Jan Fledderus (the technical director of FC Groningen, ed.), but we could use a player with such qualities. I’ll wait and see.”

At Groningen the departure of Hurstic is taken into account. He was mentioned at 1. FC Köln, but Eintracht Frankfurt seems to be the most concrete. The Bundesliga club has meanwhile reported to Fledderus with a second bid. The technical director is in talks with Sparta about the transfer fee of Harroui, but the difference between supply and demand is still too big. “Should that remain the case, we also have other candidates”, Fledderus responds.

Harroui was trained by Sparta. After having played with Jong Sparta for two seasons, he made his final breakthrough in the main force in the 2018/19 season. In the Kitchen Champion Division he scored 35 matches and 4 goals. Last season he could call himself a regular base player in the team of Henk Fraser and also this year he is a regular base customer. His contract at Het Kasteel continues until mid 2022.
