Ronald Koeman is certainly open to returning to FC Barcelona one day. The Dutch national team coach was forced to leave in 2021. Blue Granabut as far as he was concerned it was not a final farewell.

The trainer said this on Friday morning at the Koeman Cup, a golf and padel tournament that bears the name of the Barcelona icon. Koeman spoke to various Spanish media about the European superpower of yesteryear.

“I have a dream to return to Barcelona, but it won't be as a coach,” the selector explains. “I want to help players improve their technique.”

Koeman does have one strict requirement for a comeback at the Spotify Camp Nou: as long as Joan Laporta is president of Barcelona, the Dutch coach will not return.

Koeman's dismissal in 2021 is the basis for this. The former defender felt disrespected by the club and Laporta in particular at the time. The relationship between the two had already cooled before Koeman's dismissal.

“Barça's problem in recent years has been that people like Lionel Messi, Xavi and me have left,” the coach reasons. “It is better to respect the club legends. That is more important than fighting for players like Nico Williams.”

For now, Laporta's departure from Barcelona does not seem to be on the cards. The president began his second term in March 2021, after having held the reins for seven years between 2003 and 2010.
