Joshua Zirkzee will play with number 9 or 11 next season, he announced on Wednesday in an interview with Broederliefde. In the program Matchday Manchester United's new striker responds to his move to the Premier League and looks back on the last European Championship.

Last week, Zirkzee passed his medical and signed until mid-2029 at Old Trafford, where he will meet fellow countrymen Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, René Hake and Tyrell Malacia. In addition, Manchester United has the option to extend his contract for another season.

A few days after he joined the Dutch European Championship selection, the talks with Manchester United started, he says. “I had a conversation in Wolfsburg. My father was there too, because he is there for everything. After that conversation I immediately had a good feeling, then the choice was actually already made.”

“The European Championship was number one anyway, United also thought that was important. That focus had to be
there. So that was doable,” Zirkzee continues, who then indicates that he is not yet entirely sure which number he will be playing at the Red Devils.

“It depends a bit on Rasmus Højlund. He is already there and is also a striker. Number 9 is free, but yes… He has 11, so I can imagine that he wants number 9 now. In that case I will take 11. At Bologna I also had 11, so that doesn't matter to me that much.”

Earlier, Zirkzee indicated via the official channels of Man United that he was very much looking forward to his new adventure. “I can't wait to contribute to achieving success with Manchester United. I am a player who always gives everything to win. I am ready for this new challenge, to take my career to the next level and win more trophies.”

“It is a privilege to join such an iconic club,” concluded Zirkzee. “I now have to take a little break after being away from the national team, but I will return ready and make an immediate impact.”
