Nico Williams' agent has held talks with Deco on Wednesday about a transfer to FC Barcelona, according to transfer market experts Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano. Joan Laporta, coach Hansi Flick and Deco have the dream of uniting Williams with Lamine Yamal in the attack and making them shine as they did at the European Championship.
Williams' transfer to Barcelona is seen as a mission impossibleas the club is in financial trouble. For several seasons now, the Catalans have had to make major cuts to player salaries and in recent transfer periods it has been a major problem to sign new signings for LaLiga.
However, Laporta himself is convinced that Williams is achievable. On Wednesday, the left winger's representative was invited to a meeting about Barcelona's plans, and they were received very positively.
According to reports, Williams is certainly open to a transfer to the Blue Grana to play there, just like with the Spanish national team, together with Lamine Yamal, among others.
Barcelona wants to reach a personal agreement with the Man of the Match in the European Championship final as soon as possible to get ahead of the English clubs. Reaching an agreement with Williams, who prefers to stay in LaLiga, is not the biggest stumbling block.
The twenty-time international of Athletic Club is the red still fixed until mid-2027, although he can leave for a fixed amount of 58 million euros. It seems an impossible task to cough up that buyout fee for Barcelona, who can hardly spend money.
