Arsenal and Chelsea join battle for Nico Williams, reports The Athletic. The two London clubs join FC Barcelona, who are also hoping for the signature of Spain's European Championship star. The 22-year-old Williams is said to have a limited buyout clause of 58 million euros in his contract with Athletic Club.
Few defenders were able to get a grip on Williams during the last European Championship, who played a major role in Spain's final victory. The right-footed left winger played 496 minutes in Germany, spread over 6 appearances. In those, the constantly threatening Williams was good for two goals and an assist.
Williams' performances have caught the eye of Arsenal and Chelsea, while Barcelona have been interested in his services for some time. Williams was the absolute star at Athletic Club last season, who won the Copa del Rey again after eight years.
The twenty-times international of the red still on contract until mid-2027, although he can leave for a fixed amount of 58 million euros. Transfer market estimates his market value slightly higher and values Williams at 60 million euros.

Williams would prefer to remain active in LaLiga, but Real Madrid already have Vinícius Júnior in his position. A transfer to Arsenal or Chelsea in the Premier League could therefore offer a way out. Manager Mikel Arteta would like to welcome his compatriot to the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea are said to have watched Williams several times in the past season.
Williams is no longer the 'brother of' Iñaki (30). The winger often received that title when he broke through at Athletic Club in 2021. The counter now stands at 122 official matches for that club, in which Williams scored 20 goals. He also provided 26 assists, 14 of which in the last LaLiga.
