Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy and René Hake. The two will become assistant managers to Erik ten Hag. Both Van Nistelrooy and Hake will sign a two-year contract at Old Trafford. Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have left the club.

“I am delighted that René and Ruud were interested in joining our project. They add a wealth of experience, knowledge and new energy to the staff,” Ten Hag said in an initial response.

“This is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and move to the next level.”

Sporting director Dan Ashworth is delighted with the arrival of the two Dutchmen. “Together with Erik we are working on strengthening all parts of the first men's team and renewing the technical staff is an important part of that.”

“It is a great pleasure to welcome Ruud back to the club where he enjoyed so much success as a player, and I know he and René will help to reinforce the winning mentality and high standards we strive for.” Van Nistelrooy left for Real Madrid in 2006 as a club legend.

Unlike McCarthy and Van der Gaag, Steven McClaren and Darren Fletcher will remain part of Ten Hag's technical staff. The Haaksberger is grateful for the contributions McCarthy and Van der Gaag have made.

“Mitchell has decided that this is the right time for him to pursue his own ambitions as head coach. I would like to thank him very much for his fantastic work over the last two years. I would also like to thank Benni for his significant contributions. We thank them and wish them all the best for the future.”
