Dutch national team celebrates Virgil van Dijk's birthday, which he receives as a gift from Ronald Koeman

The Dutch national team celebrated Van Dijk's birthday on Monday at the players' hotel. Images shared by the KNVB show the captain of Oranje receiving congratulations from several players before Ronald Koeman takes the floor.

“The 'capitano' is celebrating his birthday. 33. Congratulations. We hoped that you at least thought that we would be there for your birthday,” the national coach said. “Definitely,” Van Dijk responded. “Thank you, everyone.”

“As the coach said: the goal for me was to be able to celebrate my birthday with you. That means that we are at least in the semi-finals of the European Championship. Count your blessings, I will do that for sure. Every day”, the captain continues. “On to the dream that we are going to make come true together.”

The Dutch national team will face England in the semi-final of the European Championship on Wednesday evening at 21:00. The winner of that duel will face Spain or France in the final. Those countries will fight it out on Tuesday evening at 21:00 to see who will be allowed to report to Berlin on Sunday.
