UEFA, in collaboration with adidas, has chosen to play the semi-finals and final of the European Championship with a different ball. From the group stage to the quarter-finals, a colourful ball was used, the adidas Fussballliebe, but from the semi-finals onwards, the Fussballliebe Finale will roll onto the fields.

Sunday afternoon the new ball was presented that the Netherlands, England, France and Spain will play with in the final phase of the tournament. Spain also trained with the Fussballliebe Finale to test it.

The ball that was used before has a white background color and contains some elongated triangles. The triangles are a combination of black combined with a lighter and brighter color, such as the Dutch, yellow and green.

In the semi-finals and the final, the organization chooses to play with a different ball. The bright colors disappear and are replaced by the colors of the German flag: black, red and yellow.

Furthermore, the largest part of the ball will not be white, but silver. The silver represents the color of the trophy that the winner of the tournament will hold aloft. The new ball also features an even more developed 'Connected Ball Technology'. This gives fans, referees and coaches even more precise data during matches.

“The 'Fussballliebe' is made from recycled polyester, water-based ink and various organic products such as corn fibre, sugar cane and wood pulp,” adidas previously announced. The Fussballliebe is equipped with the so-called 'Connected Ball Technology'. With the help of this technology, the data about the position of a player is sent directly to the VAR.

“The Connected Ball Technology contributes to UEFA’s semi-automated offside technology and thus plays an important role in supporting faster match decisions.”
