Latest update:

Oskar Zawada will be responsible for the goals at RKC next season. The 28-year-old striker from Poland has signed a two-year contract in Waalwijk and comes over on a free transfer from the Australian Wellington Phoenix. This gives former FC Twente loanee Zawada a second chance in the Eredivisie.

At RKC, Zawada will play with shirt number 9. He responded to his transfer via the club website. “After successful years in New Zealand, I am ready for a new sporting challenge and RKC Waalwijk is a great step for me. I have shown in the A-League that I can be valuable to the team as a striker with goals. It is my wish to prove this in the Eredivisie as well.”

Previously, Zawada failed to score at the highest level in the Netherlands. VfL Wolfsburg hired him as a major talent at Twente in the 2015/16 season, but the Pole failed to convince in Enschede. Zawada only played 398 minutes for the Tukkers, spread over eleven appearances. He failed to score any goals or provide any assists.

Nevertheless, technical director Mo Allach has confidence in his acquisition. “We are happy that we succeeded in bringing Oskar to Waalwijk. After the departure of David Min, we succeeded in adding a striker to our selection. With his experience and qualities, we are taking the next step in filling in our forward line.”

Zawada is the intended successor of Min (25), who left for FC Utrecht for an unknown transfer fee. The Zaandam native scored 11 goals in 34 Eredivisie matches last season. With that, Min played an important part in the survival of RKC.

Zawada, who according to Transfer market 600,000 euros, expired this summer from his contract with Wellington Phoenix. Since August 2022, he has played 42 times for that club. Zawada was in good form there, as he was good for 22 goals and 3 assists.

Allach is on a roll this transfer period. The referee presents his seventh summer acquisition with Zawada. Yanick van Osch (SC Cambuur), Roshon van Eijma (TOP OSS), Juan Familia-Castillo (free transfer), Tim van de Loo (Telstar), Daouda Weidmann (Torino) and Richard van der Venne (FC St, Gallen) preceded the Polish striker.

In addition to Min, RKC saw several important players leave. Etienne Vaessen transferred to FC Groningen on a free transfer, while Thierry Lutonda opted for a contract with PEC Zwolle. Mark Spenkelink, Juriën Gaari, Shawn Adewoye, Jeffrey Bruma, Mats Seuntjens and Zakaria Bakkali have also closed the door behind them in Waalwijk. They are all still looking for a new employer.
