Arthur Theate, a starter in three of Belgium's four European Championship matches, is almost certainly moving to Saudi Arabia. The 24-year-old defender, currently of Stade Rennes, will play for Ittihad Club from next season, which will pay eighteen million for him.

That is, at least, the version of Fabrizio Romano. The Italian transfer guru reports that an agreement has been reached between both clubs, as well as between the player and his new employer. Moreover, Theate has reportedly already completed his medical examination.

The Belgian will be the first signing of Stefano Pioli, who will be presented as the new coach of Ittihad in the coming days. The Italian was last active at AC Milan, but he had to leave despite a running contract.

Pioli will now work with Theate, who has signed a contract in Saudi Arabia until the summer of 2027. His contract also includes an option for an additional season.

The timing of Theate's transfer is noteworthy. The centre-back played ninety minutes at the European Championship on Monday, where he and Belgium were eliminated by France (1-0) in the round of 16.

Theate was a regular for the Red Devils in Germany. While he started and remained on the bench in the first group match, the left-footer started in the three matches that followed.

At Ittihad, number five of the last Saudi Pro League season, Theate will be a teammate of Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kanté and Fabinho, among others.
