Latest update:

Michal Sadílek will have to miss the start of the new football season. The Czech midfielder was injured in a karting accident in early June and had to miss the European Championship, but further examination shows that he will also miss the start of the competition.

His employer FC Twente reported this on Wednesday. The Tukkers write that Sadílek is 'temporarily' unavailable for the club. “He will miss the start of the competition in any case.”

“I want to look ahead and recover as best as possible in the coming period, so that I can rejoin the selection,” Sadílek is quoted on the club website. “I want to thank the players, the staff and the club for the support I have received in recent weeks, that has done me good.”

The left-footer will miss the away match against NEC on 10 August, Twente's first match of the new Eredivisie season, due to his injury. Sadílek will also have to miss the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, which the club will play before the season opener in the Netherlands.

Notable injury

There was a lot of fuss about Sadílek's injury. Or rather, about the way he sustained it. Initially, the Czech Football Association reported that the controller had been injured in a bicycle accident during a recovery training.

BILD investigated the incident and found out that a bicycle accident was not the cause of the injury at all. The German sports newspaper even spoke of a 'scandal' surrounding Sadílek.

The medium managed to find out that the Twente midfielder sustained his injury on a day off. Together with two teammates, Sadílek got on a kind of tricycle in Schladming, where he ventured downhill. Things went wrong downhill. He fell into a hole and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance immediately.
