Matthijs de Ligt seems to be well on his way to Manchester United. The defender is frequently linked with a move to Erik ten Hag's team, but the supporters of the German powerhouse are not at all keen on that. They have started a petition in the hope of being able to keep De Ligt.

Despite De Ligt not always being an undisputed regular for Bayern this season under Thomas Tuchel, fans of the record champion the Dutchman very highly. They want to do everything they can to keep the defender on board for longer.

“We all want Matthijs de Ligt to stay at Bayern Munich!”, it sounds. “He has proven often enough that he is a world-class defender, probably the best in our team.”

“It is not without reason that he was voted our best player of the 2022/23 season,” it continues. “Moreover, at 24 years old, he has a promising future ahead of him.” More than 16,000 people have now signed the petition.

Manchester United

De Ligt has been increasingly linked with Manchester United in recent days. According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, there are more clubs that have the defender in their sights, but only Manchester United have been given the green light for the 24-year-old Dutchman.

It is now up to Manchester United and Bayern Munich to reach an agreement in the short term. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany the German powerhouse is demanding at least fifty million euros plus bonuses for the defender, who has a three-year contract in Munich.

De Ligt is currently on the road with the Dutch national team in Germany for the European Championship. However, he has not played a single minute in the final tournament. Stefan de Vrij is consistently preferred in the centre of defence alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.
