Feyenoord in the market for Jeyland Mitchell

Feyenoord hopes to strengthen itself with Jeyland Mitchell, his agent Kurt Morsink confirms to Tigo Sports. Mitchell is a nineteen-year-old defender who has already played seven international matches for Costa Rica. The right-footer is contracted to his club LD Alajuelense until mid-2027.

Mitchell has been a regular starter for Costa Rica in the Copa América in recent weeks. In the first group match against Brazil (0-0) he fought many duels with Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior, whom he managed to keep from scoring.

Against Colombia (3-0 defeat) Mitchell had a much harder time, but in the last group match against Paraguay (2-1 win) Costa Rica managed to save the honour. However, four points were not enough for the knockout phase, so Mitchell returns to his club Alajuelense.

Mitchell may travel to De Kuip in the short term to complete a transfer to Feyenoord. The teenager can realize his European dream in Rotterdam-Zuid, confirms Morsink. “Feyenoord is one of the options, possibly the best option. It would be a nice challenge.”

The 1.87 meter tall Mitchell is according to Transfer market Worth 175,000 euros, although Alajuelense will not be satisfied with that because of his long-term contract. The central defender has only played twelve official games for the club's first team and was previously active for Guanacasteca and Municipal Liberia.

At Feyenoord, the competition in the centre of defence is quite big. Lutsharel Geertruida is still under contract, although it is expected that he will make a top transfer this summer. Thomas Beelen and Gernot Trauner will probably stay longer, while Antef Tsoungui (FC Dordrecht) and Neraysho Kasanwirjo (Rapid Wien) return from a loan spell.

David Hancko is undisputed as a left-footed centre-back, although he has most likely been in the spotlight at the European Championship in recent weeks. Feyenoord recently sold Ramon Hendriks to VfB Stuttgart for a nice sum.
